Project Based Learning ZONE

NEWLY RENOVATED!!!

At BSVL, we are firm knowers that hybrid/blending learning is the best approach to academic development and growth. It allows our Master Students to limit screen to our recommended max of four hours a day.  We also created this Project Based Learning Zone to give Star Families projects that can span 15-20 days in length to provide enriched learning opportunities in Science, Social Studies, and Fine Arts. We also have projects in Health and PE and ELA.

Do them together as a family or collaborate with other members in the community in the PBL Fun House Vibe Room. These teachable moments are optional and you decide how much or little is implemented. Some learners may simply use them as additional resources to learn a concept so have fun with PBL!

The Recess Path

Project Summary
Master Students design and create an indoor sensory path that can be used on indoor recess days for movement breaks. Learners investigate different types of sensory paths and learn about the reasons that recess might be held indoors, tracking the weather and temperature. They generate a list of different movement types that children of varied ages would like to do and create surveys and collect data about those movements in order to learn which are most popular. Working with their family as a team (or pairing with other families in the BSVL community), participants design sections of a large Recess Path. They write procedural texts (how-to books) that teach others how to do the movements on the path. Finally, Master Students are invited to present the path to their local communties or Blue Star Virtual Learning during Project Share Days. This is a great opportunity for sharing their learning process and teaching others how to use the path on indoor recess days. Introductory Materials 1. Detailed Project Description 2. Project Rubric for PreK-Early Grades

Project Based Learning Explained

Blue Star Virtual Learning is delighted to use resources from the Buck Institute for Education. We have purchased 72 projects to circululated throughout the learning year. We ask out of courtesy to copyright laws that they not be reproduced and circulated to those outside of our membership. Two have been focused on as a possible community collaboration. There are several categories with tons more for you to choose from, so simply reach out to our team with a request and we will send you as many as you like. Allow a week for each project request as there are quite a few resources. Click Here to view a short video introduction to the concept.

PBL Quick Tips
