We have exciting news! Starting January 4th, 2021, Blue Star Virtual Learning is partnering with SMILE Camp to bring to the international learning community STEM Universal and STEM Universal Onsite. As many of you may know by now, STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and has infused the world of education with innovative and relevant skills for 21st century careers in technology and science.
STEM Universal is a virtual learning companion that can serve both students privately educated at home or enrolled in traditional school. It provides weekly live Math and Science experiences with two experienced educators demonstrating key academic concepts via lab using live feed (a recording of the lesson is also made available). The program comes with premium online curriculum and age appropriate STEM Starter Kits. These learning accessories have everything a family needs to provide science labs and hands on Math manipulative activities from the comfort of home. In addition, each learner is assigned a Compass Guide to provide extra academic nurturing and support throughout their learning experience receiving weekly feedback and monthly reports on learner progress.
As exciting, for families living in Wake County, North Carolina and surrounding areas, you can experience the same program in person by enrolling in STEM Universal Onsite based in the SMILE Camp facility located at 6301 Hillsborough Street Raleigh, NC 27606.
This unique extension of the virtual experience allows individual learners (or a small group of siblings) to have a private learning pod that adheres to the highest standards of health and safety protocols while learners are thoughtfully monitored by a professional experienced team of educators Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Families can sign up for weekly or monthly plans. While onsite, engaged learners can attend in STEM labs and Math focus groups that allow them to dive deeper into content meaning and make Science and Math more relevant. The experience also allows for socialization and direct support from guides and instructors. Featuring family friendly rates, parents can afford to serve multiple children without overextending their budgets freeing them up to work, run errands, or incorporate more self-care in their lives.
A joint initiative by company owners Melissa Perkins (Blue Star Virtual Learning) and Karen and Roger Russell (SMILE Camp), STEM Universal is led by a team with more than 70 years combined education experience. Melissa is a former licensed instructional coach for both traditional educators and international teachers; also serving as an adjunct professor for Virgnia Tech Language and Culture Institute. Karen is a retired AIG and Mathematics Teacher who (alongside her husband) launched a program that has been exciting youth in the Triangle Area about STEM for more than 10 years. Roger is a working engineer and private consultant. He also was the Engineering Operations Manager for NC State University and has a sincere passion for helping learners of all ages enjoy the wonder of science. Together the three serve as the administrators and lead instructional facilitators of the STEM Universal/STEM onsite programs.
